What I Learned from Sitting Down with The Peach Truck's Stephen Rose

If you're like me - you are quite excited about summertime in Nashvilleand the oh so many perks that come along with this glorious season. The month of May brings upon us many of my faves ice cream at Bobbie's Dairy Dip, fresh Tennessee Strawberries at the Farmers Market, and perhaps most excitingly, the freshest, most delicious peaches I've ever had from one of my most obsessed-over local brands: The Peach Truck.

I recently sat down with one of The Peach Truck owners, Stephen Rose, at one of my local go-to watering holes, no. 308. We caught up about life, chatted about some of his own favorite go-to Nashville locales, and of course I got a plenty of info on those fabulous Georgia peaches. Among the more interesting facts I discovered was one that truly sets The Peach Truck peaches apart from any standard 'run-of-the-mill' peach you might find at the grocery store: the Peach Truck Peach you are eating is only about two days old. You'll see why this so important, momentarily.

This leads me to how specifically The Peach Truck began:

When Stephen and his wife Jessica moved to Nashville a few years back, Rose, a Georgia native, was somewhat distraught regarding the lack of quality peaches available to us here in town. The solution was somewhat simple: partner with Georgia peach grower Pearson Farms (the owners happen to be Rose's godparents), trek them a few hours up the road to Nashville, and sell them immediately.

Peaches you find in the grocery store are often up to 2 weeks old - which leads to the 'mealy' consistency you typically find in said peaches. Now, thanks to the Roses, Nashvillians have access to summer's golden fruit the way it was intended to be eatenright off the vinewhich drastically improves both their taste and overall quality. A simple idea, yes, but a smart one. Within the first five weeks during their first year in business, The Peach Truck sold over 5 tons of peaches in the area. That's a hell of a lot of peach, y'all.

Now the folks behind such a beautiful brand have to know the best places in Nashville to check out. As our conversation was coming to a close, I was sure to pick Stephen's brain in my typical 'I need to understand your favorite spots in town to see if we're going to be friends' kind of way. And let's just say passed with flying colors. So here we go:
